Cadmium and zinc chelates of hexafluoroacetylacetone the gas phase reaction of a novel volatile cadmium complex with hydrogen sulphide

Three new hexafluoroacetylacetonate (hfa) chelates of cadmium having compositions, NH4Cd(hfa)3.H2O, Cd(hfa)2.NH3.H2O and Cd(hfa)2.2H2O have been synthesized. The syntheses, molecular weight, infra-red, NMR spectra and other properties of these chelates and of Zn(hfa)2.2H2O are discussed. A study of the gas phase reaction between Cd(hfa)2.NH3.H2O and hydrogen sulphide leading to the deposition of thin films of cadmium sulphide is also described.
