In this paper process of gold(III) chloride adsorption from an aqueous and semi-aqueous system was described. It was found, that the adsorption of gold(III) ions from aqueous solutions leads to a metallic gold formation at the surface of activated carbon. The size of the particles after adsorption is significant and can be seen with the naked eye. In all studied cases, if the adsorption was carried out from an aqua solution, more than 95% of the gold was removed from the solution. In the case of the semi-aqueous system, also metallic gold was obtained, however, the particles size is in the nanometric scale. Moreover, an equilibrium in the system was observed.
