The molecular weight of the antibiotic saramycetin was determined as 2100 by two ultracentrifugal methods: (a) approach to sedimentation equilibrium and (b) combination of the zero concentration diffusion constant (D20 = 34 × 10−7 cm.2 sec.−1) with the zero concentration sedimentation constant (S20, w = 1.2 × 10−13 cm. sec.−1). At concentrations above 5 mg./ml. saramycetin associates, forming aggregates with a molecular weight of 55,000.
