- Rifampicin and rifapentine in treatment of experimental listeriosis in normal mice and athymic (nude) mice. Bakker-Woudenberg, Irma A. J.In this study, 61379-65-5 and 13292-46-1 are also used. M.; De Bos, P.; Michel, M. F. (Dep. Clin. Microbiol. Antimicrob. Ther., Erasmus Univ., Rotterdam NL-3000 DR, Neth.). Chemotherapy (Basel), 30(3), 194-204 (English) 1984. CODEN: CHTHBK. ISSN: 0009-3157. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 1 (Pharmacology) Rifampicin [13292-46-1] and rifapentine (I) [61379-65-5] were used in the treatment of Listeria monocytogenes infections in normal mice and congenitally athymic (nude) mice. Results were compared with untreated controls and with the results obtained from a previous study of ampicillin in which this model was used. Low doses of rifampicin or rifapentine were adequate to cure normal mice. The efficacy of these antibiotic treatment schedules was lost in nude mice. Prolonged antibiotic treatment schedules with increased dosages were also unsuccessful. Thus, rifampicin and rifapentine, 2 antimicrobial agents capable of destroying intracellular bacteria, were not effective in curing the Listeria infection in mice with impaired host defenses. .

DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 1 (Pharmacology) The effectiveness of rifampicin [13292-46-1] against exptl. tuberculosis in mice increased progressively as the frequency of its oral administration at 10 mg/kg was increased from 1 to 2 to 3 to 6 times/wk. DL 473 (I) [61379-65-5], administered once per wk at 10 mg/kg, was as effective as rifampicin administered 6 times/wk. .
