Ni halide, Cr, and/or Cr halide, heated to 700-900° at 1st and then held at 1000-1250°. The steel products treated by the method have a Ni-rich cemented layer (without pores) with excellent adhesion, are high-temp. corrosion-resistant, and not embrittled by s-phase formation, and they are useful for parts such as boiler tubes in thermal power plants. Thus, a steel SUS 347H [60589-46-0] plate (15 ′ 15 ′ 2 mm) was buried in a powder mixt. composed of NiCl2 10, Cr 50, and Al2O3 40%, heated to 800° and then at 1100° for 10 and 1 h, resp., and furnace-cooled. The plate was kept in steam at 650° for 1000 h, and had scale thickness ￡2 m. It had a high-temp. resistance in gas contg. SO2 at 650°. .
