During the reaction, 40 parts I soln. contg. 1800 ppm II was recovered, and the soln. was mixed with 1.2 parts water, heated at 170° for 3 h to reduce II content to 36 ppm, and distd. to give 36 parts pure I, which was mixed with 36 parts fresh I and used in the 2nd batch of III manuf. to obtain polyester with characteristics comparable to those of products prepd. without using the recycled I.
