DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 3 (Biochemical Interactions) L-Sorbose [87-79-6] and 3-O-methylglucose [146-72-5] reduced colony diam. and increased the amt. of hyphal branching in D. salina, but had only a small effect on dry wt. produced in shake culture. The effect of L-sorbose was blocked by glucose but not by sucrose, arabitol, and mannitol. Theophylline [58-55-9] and phaseolin [13401-40-6] acted like sorbose and methylglucose and there was a synergistic effect between theophylline and the 2 sugars. Imidazole [288-32-4], cycloheximide [66-81-9], and Dio-9 [11006-20-5] reduced colony diam. but showed no paramorphogenic effects. The results are discussed in terms of the removal of glucose repression by cyclic AMP [60-92-4].

DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 5 (Agrochemicals) L-Sorbose (I) [87-79-6] inhibited hyphal extension and promoted profuse branching in R. solani. When applied to cotton seeds planted in soil infested with the pathogen, I protected the seeds against damping-off. It was fungistatic and not fungicidal. Because I is metabolized by soil microorganisms, it did not persist or accumulate in the soil. When applied to seed in cryst. form with sticker, I is highly water sol. and may be leached from the spermosphere. Use of a less sol. formulation consisting of I mixed with cellulose acetate in acetone alleviated this problem.
