- Disulfiram
-
is soluble in benzene, toluol, acetone, chloroform, CS2 partly soluble in gasoline, insoluble in water, acid and alkali with lower concentration. Be sensitive to skin and good storage. The product should be stored in the dry and cooling place with good ventilation, avoiding exposure of the packaged product to direct sunlight. Disulfiram is a kind of API. There are some basic informations about this crude drug: (1)Classification: Chemical Auxiliary Agent; (2)MF: C10H20N2S4; (3)EINECS No.: 205-736-8; (4)CAS No.:.
Disulfiram is a drug used to support the treatment of chronic alcoholism by producing an acute sensitivity to alcohol.
Under normal metabolism, alcohol is broken down in the liver by the enzyme alcohol dehydrogenase to acetaldehyde, which is then converted by the enzyme acetaldehyde dehydrogenase to the harmless acetic acid.
A study reported that it may be potentially useful in the treatment of Giardia infection. Another study found that it had activity against Trichomonas vaginalis which was resistant to the most common treatment, metronidazole.
A patient with metastatic ocular melanoma was successfully treated by disulfiram with zinc gluconate. This can be explained as disulfiram creating complexes with metals (dithiocarbamate complexes) is proteasome inhibitor and can represent a new approach to proteasome inhibition.
