Grundmann Aldehyde Synthesis

Transformation of an acid into an aldehyde of the same chain length by conversion of the acid chloride, via the diazo ketone, to the acetoxy ketone, reduction with aluminum isopropoxide and hydrolysis to the glycol, and cleavage with lead tetraacetete:
