Fibres and Textiles in Eastern Europe
  • Fibres and Textiles in Eastern Europe
  • Fibres & Textiles in Eastern Europe is a scientific journal, published in English with Polish abstracts, devoted to scientific research & development of the manufacturing and processing of fibre-grade polymers, including biopolymers, fibres, fibrous products, and textile technologies. Some of the problems discussed in the journal are trends in fibre development, theory and practice of new technologies and techniques for manufacturing and modifying polymers, fibres and textiles, among others, by means of waste free, biotechnological processes and the manufacturing of special fibres and fibrous products, especially from modified natural and synthetic polymers such as cellulose derivatives, lignins, chitin and chitosan. Special attention is paid to works presenting problems related to bioactivity, biocompatibility, biodegradability, textile waste utilisation and waste-water.

In the 'General problems part, economical and legal aspects of investment restructuring and trade in textiles & clothing are considered. Special attention is given to the processes of the mutual integration of European Union countries and their cooperation with countries outside the Union. Fibres & Textiles in Eastern Europe constitutes a forum for the exchange of information and the establishment of mutual contact for cooperation between scientific centres, as well as, between science and industry.

During the first years of publishing Fibres & Textiles in Eastern Europe, a part devoted to 'Fibre and textile art', with world achievements in textile art has been presented in each issue of the journal. At present, this part has been presented from time to time.

Since the beginning of 1993 Fibres & Textiles in Easter Europe has been publishing by the Institute of Biopolymers and Chemical Fibres, ?ód?, Poland. Since 2008 Kaunas University of Technology (KTU), Kaunas, Lithuania, has participated in the publication process.

The journal’s title, which mirrors its initial character as a forum for publications of authors from Poland and other countries of the region, being under political and economic transformation, at present is only a historical one as the articles published in Fibres & Textiles in Eastern Europeare by authors from the whole world . Almost from the very beginning, the journal's content has been indexed by leading world databases, such as Chemical Abstract, Referativny Zhurnal, Elsevier Geo Abstracts, Toga Fitz Technik, Rapra Technology, World Textile Publications, Textile Institute – Manchester, and the British Library.

At the beginning of 1999 (Vol.7, No.1), the Institute of Scientific Information (at present called ISI "Thompson Scientific" list), Philadelphia, USA placed our journal on the ISI Master Journal List, which lists the best scientific journals in the world and is indexed by their data- bases, including the Material Science Citation Index. Since 2002 the journal has had the so called ‘Impact Factor’ and is at present one of only a few world journals on the ISI-list dealing with such a broad range of fibre and textile problems.

In 1999 the journal was decorated with the Order of the Polish Textile Association.

The titles of articles together with their English and Polish abstracts, as well as an index of the authors, are placed on our Internet website. Since 2002 (Vol.10, No.3) all articles have been accessible for free on our website (www.fibtex.lodz.pl), which enables a quick and broad dissemination of the authors' scientific achievements. Fibres & Textiles in Eastern Europe is a quarterly, but additional issues devoted to particular problems of fibre and textile science are edited almost every year. Additional issues are published also in order to shorten the publishing period, which unfortunately at present can extend to even two years due to the great number of articles received for publishing. In the foreseeable future the editors plan to change the publishing policy and transform Fibres & Textiles in Eastern Europe into a bi-monthly journal.

An example of the journal's development is the increase in annually published pages: from 180 in 1993 to 776 in 2008.

In Fibres & Textiles in Eastern Europe, the authors published originate from countries all over the world, which at present are the following: Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia/Herzegovina, Brazil, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Egypt, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, Iran, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, P. R. China, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan R. O. C., The Netherlands, The United Kingdom, The United States of America, Turkey, Ukraine, Yugoslavia, Zimbabwe.
