  • The Harms of Four Kinds of Anti-Nutrients
  • Have you ever thought that some substances that we take in are not only unhealthy to our body, but also may impede the absorption of other nutrients. These substances are called as "anti-nutrients", such as trans fatty acid, , nitrite, and phosphate, and so on. These four types of anti-nutrients are very common in our life, so we should pay special attention to them.

    Firstly, trans fatty acids:
The representative foods of trans fatty acids are baked food, artificial butter or cream, fried food, and so on. Trans fatty acids not only can extend the shelf life of food, but also can improve the taste of food. However, they may also cause some damages on human body. For example, they not only may increase the level of blood cholesterol, but also may affect the normal metabolism of the body, and make the fat easily accumulated in the body.

    Secondly, aluminum:
The representative foods of aluminum include puffed and fried food. Aluminum can make food taste much better, but it will prevent the absorption of a variety of minerals by the body. If the human body takes in too much aluminum, it may also cause neurological disorder. The best way to solve this problem is to eat more coarse cereals and fresh fruit and vegetables, so as to increase the intake of dietary fibers, and eliminate the bad effect of aluminum on the body.

    Thirdly, nitrite:
The representative foods of nitrite are processed meat and preserved food, such as sausage, ham, bacon, sauerkraut, and so on. After adding nitrite in the food, it can not only improve the appearance of the food, but can also extend the shelf life of food. However, nitrite will combine with heme iron, and prevent the hemoglobin from transporting oxygen to the body, and it may even form carcinogenic nitrosamine. At the same time, it will consume the vitamin C and vitamin E in the food.

    Fourthly, phosphoric acid and phosphate:
The representative food of phosphoric acid and phosphate is beverage. Phosphoric acid and phosphates can improve the flavor of food and make it taste much better. However, excessive intake of phosphoric acid and phosphate will easily interfere with the absorption of calcium in the body, thus seriously increasing the risk of osteoporosis and anemia. What's more, they also have some adverse effect on the patients who suffer from hypertension and heart disease. As a result, it is better to drink pure water, mineral water and boiled water, and drink as less beverage as possible.
