- How to Help Children Form Correct Dietary Attitude
-
At the age of three to six years old, children can understand that taking food is a normal reaction to hunger and can regard taking food as a pleasant thing. Therefore, it is important for parents to help their kids form correct dietary attitude at this point. Parents should teach the kids basic table manners and tell them how to use table wares in a right way. Parents must tell the kids that they can not talk when lots of foods are contained in the mouth or they can never seizure others’ foods. It is important for parents to set themselves an example to the kids.
Many parents are worried about whether the kids are full or not after the dinner. Some principles as follows should be understood by parents so as to help children take just enough food. Children should eat desserts less than two times a day, and eat healthy foods instead of soft drinks, sugars and other foods which contain too much fat. Parents should not regard foods as rewards to their children. When children are playing games or watching TV, parents must ask them not to eat anything so as to prevent them from eating too much unconsciously. Parents do not need to worry about the children’s shifty appetite. It is rather normal for children to change the appetite according to their recent activities. Parents should not force their children to take food. Parents should not ask the children to drink too much milk, either. As milk contains abundant calcium, parents always regard milk as essential food for children. However, high intake of milk will reduce the children’s appetite of other foods. In fact, it is completely enough for children to drink 480 grams of milk to supplement calcium every day.
Small children can not behave quite well when they are taking food. For example, children may eat a lot of foods they like best or they always seize all the foods. Parents should not get mad at these small children. Parents should encourage children to eat their own food and to eat the food which does not contain too much fat and salt. Sometimes, the television advertisements can seriously affect the children’s dietary attitude. They may want to eat the sugars or desserts they know from the advertisements. Therefore, parents should keep watch on the television programs so as to help children form correct dietary attitude.
