  • How to Choose Honey
  • As we know, honey is good for health. It is suggested that people drink it every day. But not all the kinds of honey on the market are good enough. Then how do we choose honey? How can we make sure that the honey we buy is of high quality? Many people would answer me that all we need to do is to go to the supermarket and choose a brand that we trust. Such a method seems reasonable, but it does not always work. Let me give you some tips.

There are five steps you should follow if you want to buy high quality honey. The first step is to judge the packing. When you know nothing else about honey, you are suggested to check whether the packing meets ordinary standards. For example, you should check the seal and the container. And you must find indispensable information about the product and the manufactory on the packing. Then you may turn the up side down to see if the honey is dense enough. The less the water contains, the better the honey is. When the honey floats slowly, it is good. The following steps only work after you buy it. You can try to pull the honey out by a toothpick. If it is thin and bright, you make a wise choice. Then you can boil the iron to test it. Good honey smell like fruit and flowers. If you can only smell the candies, you had better choose a different brand next time. After that, you may taste it. Pure honey is usually so sweet that will make your throat feel uncomfortable, while the low quality tastes dry. Manufacturers would like to add some has some additives like aluminum potassium sulfate dodecahydrate to make it dense.

The most efficient criteria to judge honey are its sweetness and smell. Low quality honey or fake honey, in general, tastes and smells bad. Inferior honey is less fragrant than superior one because there are additional substances in it. Sometimes you may find it smell like alcohol. On the other hand, inauthentic sweetness is caused by the added cane sugar and buck. Fake honey usually has little honey or does not contain any honey at all. In other words, it is just sweet water. When you try the heated iron test, you may find the differences. Real honey will become gas instead of fume when it is heated. Scientists also teach us a fluorescence experiment. When put in different fluorescence tubes, honey would show different colors in the darkness. High quality honey turns yellow, while inferior one is green or bluish. If you see the color of grey, you are so unlucky that you have brought the fake honey.
