An approach to the synthesis of a series of bis(arene)chromium complexes with a varied substituent in one of the ligands has been worked out, which involves low-temperature co-condensation of chromium vapours with arenes followed by the modification of substituents in arene ligands.In this way a series of complexes have been obtained: (η-C6H5Cl)(η-C6H5X)Cr+A- (X = H, NMe2, <*>, <*>, <*>, OMe, OEt, OPr-i, OBu-n, Cl, CO2H, CO2Me, CF3); (η-C6H6)(η-XC6H4Cl)Cr+A- (X = H, p-NMe2, p-OMe, m-OMe, m-Me, p-Me, p-Cl, m-Cl, p-CO2Me, m-CO2Me, p-CO2H, m-CO2H) (A- = PF6-, BPh4-); (η-C6H5X)(η-C6H5CO2H)Cr+PF6- (X = H, OPr-i, OBu-n, OMe, Me, Cl, CO2H, CO2Me, CF3); (η-C6H6)(η-XC6H4CO2H)Cr+PF6- (X = H, p-OMe, m-OMe, p-Me, p-Cl, m-Cl, p-CO2H, p-CO2Me); (η-C6H5CO2H)(η-C6H5X)Cr (X = H, Cl, CF3, CO2Me, CO2H, OMe).
