Stereospecifically β-deuterated acyclic α-phenylketones, namely the syn- and anti-5,5-dimethyl-3-phenylhexan-2-ones-4-d1, have been synthesized by Heck reaction using corresponding deuterium labelled E-allylic alcohols.The ketones obtained can serve for an accurate measurement of racemization of α-arylketones, using 1H and 2H NMR spectroscopy.
