Reaction of chloro(chloromethyl)dimethylsilane (1) or -germane (2) with group 14 element nucleophiles, R₃M′Li (3, M′ = Si, Ge, and Sn), was examined to prepare R₃M′-MMe₂-CH₂-Cl compounds (4, M = Si; 5, M = Ge).
