Electrochemical reduction of methyl benzhydroxyiminoformyl (S)-prolinate leads to a mixture of the two epimers of pyrrolo <1,2a> 3-phenyl 1,4-diketopiperazine <*> Separation and identification of the two isomers show that preferential formation of the SS epimer is always observed.The optical yield can reach 34percent.An explanation is proposed which takes in account influence of the electrolysis conditions (acidity of the medium, cathodic potential).
