Various 8-hydroxy-5-deazaflavin derivatives were synthesized as the model compounds of coenzyme F₄₂₀. These compounds oxidized benzylamine to benzaldehyde more efficiently than the corresponding 8-unsubstituted 5-deazaflavin.
