Thieno- and isothiazolo[3,4-b]quinoxalines: synthesis, structure and pharmacological study

Thieno- and isothiazolo[3,4-b]quinoxalines have been prepared by annelation of quinoxaline. The stereochemistry of these molecules has been studied by ¹H and ¹³C NMR. A preliminary biological study was performed for analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities. Among the studied compounds, 1,3,3a,4,9,9a-hexahydrothieno[3,4-b]quinoxaline 2,2-dioxide (1) shows potent anti-inflammatory activity in the carrageenin test.
