1-Phenyl-2,3,4,5-tetramethyl-1-germacyclopentadienyl)lithium (4) was prepared by reaction of 1-phenyl-2,3,4,5-tetramethylgermole with n-butyllithium in THF/hexane at -70??C and chemically identified by electrophilic silylation and stannylation. A 13C NMR suggests that the negative charge in 4 is strongly localized on the germanium atom.
