Dimer 31 from o-Toluyl Reissert Compound 29 and 1,5-
Dibromopentane
To a solution of o-toluyl Reissert compound 2916 (1.000 g,
3.64 mmol) and dibromopentane (0.4185 g, 1.82 mmol) in
20 mL DMF at 0 ꢀC, NaH (0.1602 g, 60% dispersion, 4.0
mmol) was added. The initially dark red solution was stirred
for 4 h and poured into 200 mL of water; the resulting white
solid was filtered and dried: 1.289 g (100%). Purification
was achieved using a silica gel column (60/40, hexane/ethyl
ꢀ
acetate), mp 95.5–101.5 C (mixture of diastereomers).
1H NMR (270 MHz, CDCl3): d 1.1–1.4, m, 6H; 2.15 and 2.6,
m, 4H, diastereotopic CH2; 2.35, s, 6H, CH3; 5.6, d (J ¼ 8),
