The synthesis and the resolution of α-methoxy α-(2'-thiazinyl)glycinate diastereoisomers, using (s)-(-)-ethyl lactate as a resolving reagent, is described. The X-ray crystal structure of pure diastereoisomer is reported. These chirally substituted thiazines are key intermediates for multistep syntheses of 7-methoxy cephems.
