Thermolysis of O-(2,4-alkadienyl) S-(2-alkenyl or 2-alkynyl) dithiocarbonates (xanthates) gave the hydroisobenzothiophene derivatives via two sequential <3,3>-sigmatropic rearrangment followed by the intramolecular cycloaddition.
