Prunasin has been isolated from the stone-fruits of Prunus jamasakura, and (-)epicatechin, mandelic acid and new phenylpropanoid sucrose esters with several acetyl groups from those of P. maximowiczii.Prunasin and phenylpropanoid sucrose esters were shown to be responsible for the very bitter taste of the fruits.
