Further synthetic and structural studies on cobalt carbonyl containing antimony complexes

The reaction between SbCl3 and three equivalents of K affords the tricobalt-antimony complexes 3> (5, R = OPh; 6, R = OMe; 7, R3 = Ph2Me; 8, R = Ph; 9, R = p-tolyl).Complexes 5 and 6 have been characterized in X-ray crystallography, both contain antimony in a trigonal pyramidal coordination geometry bonded to three Co(CO)3(PR3) fragments via unsupported Sb-Co bonds.Thermolysis of 5 in THF leads to CO loss and formation of the closo cluster species (10) characterised by analytical and spectroscopic methods.The reaction between SbCl3 and one equivalent of K affords the yellow crystalline complexes > (11, R = Me; 12, R = Ph), both of which have been characterised by X-ray crystallography.Complexes 11 and 12 are monomeric and each contains a SbCl2 group bonded to a Co(CO)2(P(OR)3)2 fragment.The geometry around the cobalt centre is trigonal bipyramidal, with the SbCl2 group and one phosphite ligand in axial sites and the two carbonyls and remaining phosphite ligand in equatorial sites.
