3-methyl-1a,7b-dihydro-1H-cycloprop[c]isoquinoline is formed from trans-2-(2-acetylphenyl)cyclopropylamine generated in situ. The mechanism for this reaction appears to involve the formation of a cis-arylcyclopropylamine via a homoconjugated intermediate.
