The synthesis of enantio- and diastereomerically pure (5S)-4-bromo-5-(l-menthyloxy)furan-2(5H)-one (2) and a general method to obtain (5S)-4-alkylamino- and 4-alkylthio-5-(l-menthyloxy)furan-2(5H)-ones in very good yields are described.
