The chlorine atom in chlorodifluoromethyl epoxy ethers is unusually reactive towards butyllithium. This reactivity has been used to develop a concise synthesis of gem-difluoro-2-ethoxy allylic alcohols from the commercially available ethylchlorodifluoroacetate.
