The germylformylation of terminal alkynes is catalysed by the zwitterionic rhodium complex, <(cod)Rh+(η⁶-C6H6BPh3)-> (cod = cycloocta-1,5-diene); this highly regio- and stereo-selective reaction affords (Z)-3-germylalk-2-enals in 31-82percent yield.
