Racemic 2-(6-m-methoxyphenyl-3-oxohexyl)-2,4,5-trimethylcyclopenta-1,3- dione 3 was synthesized and resolved by reduction with Schizosaccharomyces pombe (NRRL Y-164) to give (-)-4 and (+)-5 in 42 and 36% yields, respectively.
