By treatment of the sodium (potassium) salt of 1-formylaminobenzimidazole in acetone or DMF with picryl chloride, 2,4-dinitrochlorobenzene, 2- and 4-nitrochlorobenzenes, we obtained the corresponding 1-arylaminobenzimidazoles. This is the first case of direct arylation of the amino group in N-aminobenzimidazole. 1997 Plenum Publishing Corporation.
