Hydrolysis of l,2-dimethyl-l,2-diphenyl-l,2-dichlorodisitone yields l,2-dimethyl-l,2_ diphenyldisi!ane-l,2-diol, which undergoes dimerization into stereoisomeric 2,3,5,6tetramethyl-2,3,5,6-tetraphenyl-t,4-dioxa-2,3,5,6-tetrasilacyclohexanes under the action of H₂SO4. Pure all -Irans- isomer has been isolated and characterized by 'H NMR and IR spectroscopy and X-ray analysis. The reaction of sodium disilanediolate with FeBrj results in the formation of l,2-dimethyl-l,2-diphenyl-4-ferra(u)-3,5-dioxa-l,2-disilacyclopentane.
