Synthesis, characterization and structure of ferrocenylketimine complexes of platinum(II)

The reactions of ferrocenylketimines [(η⁵-C₅H₄CMe=NAr)Fe(η⁵-C₅H₅)] (Ar = a variety of substituted phenyls) with cis-Pt(DMSO)₂Cl₂ in refluxing toluene have led to the formation of both the five-membered cycloplatinated derivatives [σ-Pt{(η⁵-C₅H₃CMe=NAr)Fe(η⁵-C₅H₅)}(DMSO)Cl] in the presence of sodium acetate and the coordinated compounds [trans-PtCl₂(DMSO){(η⁵-C₅H₄CMe=NAr)Fe(η⁵-C₅H₅)}] in the absence of sodium acetate. The compounds have been characterized by elemental analysis, IR, ¹H NMR and two-dimensional NOESY spectra. The X-ray crystal structures of [σ-Pt{(η⁵-C₅H₃CMe=NPh)Fe(η⁵-C₅H₅)}(DMSO)Cl] and [trans-PtCl₂(DMSO){(η⁵-C₅H₄CMe=NPh)Fe(η⁵-C₅H₅)}] have been determined.
