Four stereoisomers of alexine (1,7a-diepialexine (1a), 1,7,7a- triepialexine (1b), 1-epialexine (30a), and 1,7-diepialexine (30b)), the polyhydroxylaled pyrrolizidine alkaloid, were synthesized from (S)- pyroglutamic acid derivative (6).
