The first catalytic asymmetric synthesis of (S)-α-hydroxy-H- phosphinates and (S,S)-α,α'-dihydroxyphosphinates were achieved by the reaction of methyl phosphinate with aldehydes in the presence of A1-Li-BINOL complex.
