Synthesis of 1-ethyl-8-methylnaphthalene and 1-isopropyl-8-methylnaphthalene along with several 1,2,3,4-tetrahydro derivatives is described.The difficulties encountered in the synthesis and purification of these peri-substituted hydrocarbons are discussed.
