Synthesis and analgetic activity of 1,2,3,4,5,6-hexahydro-1,6-methano-3-benzazocines

1,2,3,4,5,6-Hexahydro-1,6-methano-3-benzazocine has been synthesized via a four-step sequence from benzonorbornadiene. This compound and its N-methyl derivative are more active than codeine in the mouse hot-plate antinociceptive assay and will not support morphine dependence in Rhesus monkeys.
