Some novel aliphatic esters of the unusual 3-hydroxy-2-methylidenebutyric acid have been found in the commercially available essential oil.Additionally, esters of (Z)-2-methyl-2-butenoic acid of structurally similar diols or other bifunctional alcohols have also been identified.Spectral data as well as a synthetic approach to the new esters of 3-hydroxy-2-methylidenebutyric acid are given.
