The M?ssbauer spectra of the compounds (CH3)3SnRf show a quadrupole splitting which is believed to be due to an electronegativity difference between the methyl groups and the Rf group. The magnitude of the splitting indicates that the electronegativity of the Rf group increases in the order: CH2F < CHF2 < CF=CF2 < CF3 ≈ CH(CF3)2 < CF2CF3 < C≡CCF3 < CF(CF3)2. The compound (CH3)3SnCF2H wasp repared by treating (CHs)3SnH with (CH3)3SnCF3. Apart from (CH3)3SnCF3 none of the compounds appears to be a useful carbene source.
