The titel compound is easily prepared from 1-(2-bromoethyl)pyridinium bromide and sodium hydroxide. 1-Vinylpyridinium and 1-vinyl-2,4,6-triphenylpyridinium cations add N, S, and C nucleophiles in Michael-type reactions.
