Photo-oxidation of aryl ethers in the presence of ferric chloride in aqueous acetonitrile afforded alcohols, aldehydes (or ketones), and N-alkylacetamides.One electron-transfer mehanism from the ether to Fe(III) was suggested for this photo-oxidation.
