Nitroarenes were transformed into the corresponding aminoarenes in high yields at 80 deg C with carbon monoxide (an initial pressure 30-60 kg cm-2) and water in the presence of a catalytic amount of a platinum catalyst.The platinum catalyst was combined with tin(IV) chloride, triphenylphosphine and triethylamine.This combination was essential for the high catalytic activity.
