A series of isothiocyanates were prepared in good yields by the decomposition of dithiocarbamates using chlorosilanes such as Me 3SiCl, Me2SiCl2, MeSiCl3, and SiCl4 as decomposition reagents. Alkyl isothiocyanates were obtained by a facile one-pot method in high yield from alkyl amines using these inexpensive decomposition reagents in the presence of a base.
