Carboxylic acids are readily reduced to the corresponding aldehydes in high yields by stepwise treatment of acyloxy-9-borabicyclo<3.3.1>nonanes (1) with tert-butyllithium and 9-borabicyclo<3.3.1>nonane (9-BBN) at room temperature.
