Rate of Reaction of Phenyl Radicals with Oxygen in Solution and in the Gas Phase

The rate constant for the title reaction, k₁, is 3.8 X 10⁹ M^-1 s^-1 in water at 298 K and is >/= 10⁸ M^-1 s^-1 in the gas phase at 603 K.It is concluded that two reports that this reaction is very slow in the gas phase, k₁ >/= 1.2 X 10⁴ and ca.2.3 X 10⁶ M^-1 s^-1, are in error.
