Edetic acid (CAS NO.60-00-4) was first described in 1935 by Ferdinand Munz, who prepared the compound from ethylenediamine and chloroacetic acid.
Reported in EPA TSCA Inventory. EPA Genetic Toxicology Program.
The most sensitive method of detecting and measuring Edetic acid (CAS NO.60-00-4) in biological samples is selected-reaction-monitoring capillary-electrophoresis mass-spectrometry which has a detection limit of 7.3 ng/mL in human plasma and a quantitation limit of 15 ng/mL.This method works with sample volumes as small as ~7-8 nL.It has also been measured in non-alcoholic beverages using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) of 2.0 μg/mL.
The Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid, with the CAS registry number 60-00-4,is also known as Edetic acid; EDTA; (Ethylenedinitrilo)tetraacetic acid; Edathamil. It belongs to the product categories of Amino Acids & Derivatives;Chelating Agents & Ligands. This chemical's molecular formula is C10H16N2O8 and molecular weight is 292.24.Its EINECS number is 200-449-4. What's more,Its systematic name is Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid. It is a white crystals or powder which is stable, incompatible with copper, copper alloys, nickel, aluminium, strong oxidizing agents, strong bases.Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid is slightly soluble in water. The primary hazard is the threat to the environment. Immediate steps should be taken to limit its spread to the environment. It is a chelating agent (CHELATING AGENTS) that sequesters a variety of polyvalent cations. It is used in pharmaceutical manufacturing and as a food additive.
