Catalytic degradation reactions of halogenated compounds are studied using a g.c.-m.s. instrument fitted with a micro reactor.Bromobenzene, chlorotoluenephenol, -naphthalene and hexachlorocyclohexane were contacted to different nickel catalyst at room temperature. After heating up to 150 deg C in a hydrogen stream the desorbed compounds were analyzed to obtain more information about the occuring reactions and the distribution of products.Cyclohexane was yielded as the main product of the dehalogenation and hydrogenation processes concerning substituted monoaromatic compounds mentioned above. The reaction of the chlorinated polyaromatic systems leads to decaline. However, hexachlorocyclohexane was transformed to a complex mixture of reactive small molecules as well as stable aromatic systems.
