(47) Preliminary attempts with ligandless conditions using Pd2(dba)3
did not prove productive. Also we intended to evaluate a PdCl2/TBAB
system, which unfortunately was problematic to use because of
problems in pumping the nonhomogeneous reaction mixture.

(49) Reactions under ligandless conditions using Pd(OAc)2 indicated
the need for a phosphine ligand since these conditions provided
substantial amounts of the dehalogenated byproduct (GC-MS).
(50) The reactor was washed with a DMF−water mixture (95:5) at
180 degrees for 15 min at a flow rate of 3 mL/min before each run.
(51) To determine if any catalytically active palladium deposits had
formed inside the SiC reactor, Mizoroki−Heck and Suzuki−Miyaura
reaction mixtures with no added palladium catalyst were pumped
through the reactor at otherwise identical reaction conditions as for
the optimized protocols. GC-MS analysis of the resulting samples
showed no or trace formation of product, indicating that no or trace
amounts of palladium species capable of catalyzing these reactions
under the given conditions were deposited inside the SiC reactor.
