In summary, we developed a simple cladding method to
prepare core-shell catalysts, named Fe-Zn-Zr@zeolite, with Fe-Zn-
Zr as core and zeolite (HZSM-5, Hbeta, and HY) as shell. These core-
shell catalysts exhibited high performance for isoalkanes direct
synthesis from CO2 hydrogenation. The catalysts characterization
results indicated that the zeolite shell encapsulated Fe-Zn-Zr core
uniformly, without any damage to the core catalyst at the same
time. With single-zeolite as shell, Fe-Zn-Zr@HY(2:1) showed good i-
HC/t-HC ratio, while Fe-Zn-Zr@Hbeta(2:1) given better HC
selectivity. With double-zeolites as shell, Fe-Zn-Zr@HZSM-5-
Hbeta(4:1) exhibited the highest i-HC/t-HC ratio (81.3%), much
higher than other core-shell catalysts with single-zeolite or double-
zeolites as shell, and the hydrocarbons distributions are closely
related to the weight ratio of two zeolites. The excellent
performance of this Fe-Zn-Zr@HZSM-5-Hbeta(4:1) double-zeolites
shell catalyst for isoalkanes synthesis should be attributed to the
synergistic effect afforded by HZSM-5 and Hbeta zeolites in shell. In
comparison with the conventional mixture catalysts prepared by
mechanically mixing Fe-Zn-Zr and zeolite catalysts, all the Fe-Zn-
Zr@zeolite catalysts with a special core-shell structure made the
obviously improved confinement effect on boosting isoalkanes
direct synthesis from CO2. In addition, this cladding method for
preparing core-shell catalyst is very simple, low cost and universal,
extremely suitable for mass production as well.
