lowest energy is polarized along the long molecular axis and is
quite strong compared to other conjugated molecules such as
oligothiophenes, (ii) the crystals show a H-type aggregation of
the corresponding transition moments with strong intermo-
lecular coupling, (iii) the main excitonic state is almost free
and polarized along the normal to the surface, (iv) the
resulting excitonic splitting is of about 1.2 eV, (v) the emission
is dominated by a transition polarized along the normal to the
exposed face and the orange emission is self-waveguided. Its
origin is attributed to transitions involving states of nonzero
momentum in the Brillouin zone.
